This painting began the way every piece in the In the Midst Collection begins with truth written into the very first layer. Isaiah 43:1 is inscribed by hand into the ground of the canvas: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine." Above the verse, fragments of an old hymnal whisper their own promise "God leads His dear children along the waters."

Then come the layers. Gold leaf. Atmospheric blues and twilight violets. Oil paint built slowly, petal by petal, until the blooms emerge from the mist as if remembered rather than placed.

The scripture is no longer fully visible. That's the point. The truth doesn't disappear when it's covered it holds everything else up.
