Art Rooted in Faith
Ellen Gonzales is a fine artist based in Arizona, creating original oil and mixed media paintings that speak the language of hope, redemption, and beauty. Working in oil, acrylic, and ink with layered gold leaf, her canvases begin with a foundation most collectors never see scripture, encouraging messages of hope and hymns written directly into the under-layers, before a single detail is formed.
The result is work that carries weight. Not just visual beauty, but intention. Every piece is built from the inside out, the way she believes most meaningful things are.
Ellen came to full-time artistry later in life and that journey informs everything she makes. Her paintings speak to women who have walked through dry seasons, seasons of waiting and seeing beauty and growth on the other side.
To collectors who want art that does more than fill a wall. To anyone who has needed a reminder that what looks broken can still become breathtaking.
Her work is collected nationwide and exhibited at nationally juried fine art festivals across the American Southwest and beyond.
My Process
I work in oil, acrylic, and ink — often layering all three within a single canvas. Gold leaf is applied early, catching light in ways that shift throughout the day. Before any of that, I write scripture into the ground layer. It's part of the foundation — invisible to the eye, but present in the piece. I believe the things that hold us up don't always need to be seen to be felt. Each series is built around a specific passage or theme, a cohesive body of work rather than isolated pieces.
My Inspiration
My faith in Jesus is the foundation of my creativity. My work is rooted in the belief that we are created with purpose that no matter our history or circumstance, we are invited to bloom. These florals are not just bouquets. They are proof that dry seasons are not dead seasons. That God restores, rebuilds, and redeems.
